{Bake} Salted Double Peppermint Bark
December 10, 2011 in All Posts, Bake
Remember this peppermint latte I made with my Simple Peppermint Syrup last weekend?
Well, I went a little crazy with the peppermint and made some Salted Double Peppermint Bark, too!
Salt and chocolate is my new favorite sweet combination … and I don’t even like chocolate. I especially don’t like white chocolate, which is why I added the peppermint extract to it and it gave it a nice little kick!
This treat would be a great homemade holiday present or fun holiday party hostess gift. Or you could just make it for yourself!
Here’s my recipe (adapted from Simply Scratch and JoyofBaking.com):
Ingredients
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
- 1 cup white chocolate chips
- 2 tsp vegetable oil
- 1/2 tsp peppermint extract
- 6-8 peppermint candy canes, crushed (about 1/2 cup)
- coarse ground salt or salt flakes
Step 1
Melt the semi-sweet chocolate chips and 1 tsp vegetable oil in a bowl using a double-boiler (or microwave) and pour into a tinfoil-lined 8-inch square baking pan.
Step 2
Generously sprinkle the salt over the chocolate. Then, refrigerate until hardened (at least 20 minutes). If you’re too impatient, pop it in the freezer.
Step 3
Step 4
Repeat the process for the white chocolate, but also add 1/2 tsp of peppermint extract (or 1 tsp if you’re crazy like me). Wait a bit for it to cool before pouring the melted white chocolate over the milk chocolate or you’ll end up smearing the two layers - especially if you didn’t wait until the milk chocolate was hardened in Step 2.
Step 5
Sprinkle the crushed candy canes over the white chocolate layer and gently press on them so they stay in place.
Step 6
After your bark has hardened, break apart and enjoy!
Happy Baking!

Love how you doctored up the recipe! I Love peppermint bark and only like the chocolate kind! We made the simple recipe on the blog with chocolate chips, white chocolate chips, and candy canes. I already made a second batch because we love it so much! I like the idea of adding peppermint extract, but not sure about the salt! I love anything with peppermint and chocolate together and I want to try chocolate covered candy canes next!
Yum! I might make it again this week because I really loved the saltiness with the chocolate. Just made some salted chocolate cake balls this past weekend and will post the recipe soon. I’ll check our your recipe, too

Hi Kylie! Thanks for letting me know about your linky … I’ll link up!
Ooh, looks so pretty too!
Thanks, Steph
Definitely yummy - I only enjoyed looking at it for so long before I had to start eating!
that salted addition is bound to make it! i just discovered trader joe’s salted choc bar, and all i can say is wow!
That sounds yummy! I don’t know why I don’t have that crazy love of chocolate gene, but pair it with salt and I am all over it!
yum! i don’t like white choco either, but these make it look like it might be worth eating!
It’s not really chocolate, is it? And it’s difficult to melt, but it is tasty with all these other flavors! Thanks for stopping by
I think white chocolate isn’t really chocolate, right? How can cocoa be that color and consistency? Hm…. will have to investigate
Friend- you and I are on the same wave length this week. Just posted my peppermint brownies. These look delish and I will need to try this. I have never made peppermint bark but LOVE the stuff at Williams-Sonoma… so will prob love this too!
Ha! Seems like a lot of us are on the peppermint kick! I’m heading over to check out your brownies
Btw, you could do this without the salt and without the peppermint extract, if you do try it.
Yummy! Will have to try your recipe!
This is beautiful- and again, we are on the same bloglength. I was supposed to a run a toasted hazelnut toffee bark (and a peppermint bark) post soon. haha! But, our recipes are totally different, so at least we’re not totally telepathic. haha! Love this- very pretty!
Oooh, the hazelnut toffee bark sounds soooo good. I’m a sucker for that flavor combination. Can’t wait to see it and try it!
